 Edo State Governor Swears in Six New Commissioners and others. By Osariemen Idiaghe  Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Monday, swore in the Chairman of the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), six new Commissioners, Chairmen and members of  Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), and State Secondary Education Board (SSEB). Addressing the newly sworn in executives at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Edo State, Governor Okpebholo charged them to help him drive development and progress in the State, stressing that his administration is in a hurry to bring development.  *EDO NUJ CONDEMNS  ASSAULT ON JOURNALISTS BY DSS, DEMANDS APOLOGY.  By Osariemen Idiaghe  The Nigeria Union of the (NUJ), Edo State Council has condemned in strong terms, the unwarranted attack on journalists by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting on Monday January 20, 2025.  The condemnation was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Council Chairman Mr Festus Alenkhe and Secretary, Mr Andy Egbon made available to journalists in Benin City. The statement said The attempt to bar journalists from performing their constitutional duties is a blatant assault on press freedom and the fundamental right of citizens to information and free speech. The statement further said "The actions of the DSS operatives are not only unacceptable, but also a clear indication of the growing hostility towards the media in Nigeria."  A New Commissioner of Police Approved for Edo State The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the approval of Betty Enekpen Otimenyin's appointment as the substantive Commissioner of Police for Edo State on Thursday 16th, January 2025 as the the current Commissioner of Police for Edo state, CP Peter Umoru, is set to retire on 25th January 2025. PSC Head of Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani confirmed the report. Ani explained in a statement that CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin began her career in Bauchi State Command and has held various positions such as DPO in different divisions in Plateau and Edo Commands. She has also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration in Kebbi State and Nigeria Ports Authority Western Port, Lagos State, as well as Area Commander in Eleme, Rivers State, and Mbaitoli, Imo State.  ARMED FORCES  REMEMBRANCE DAY : GOV OKPEBHOLO PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALLEN SOLDIERS Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has paid glowing tributes to the patriotism, courage and sacrifices of fallen heroes in the Nigerian Armed Forces, ascribing the nation’s unity and peace to their sacrifices. Governor Okpebholo paid this tribute, Wednesday,  at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Benin City, Edo State capital.  Acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices of the fallen heroes, Governor Okpebholo said the occasion was a solemn one as it reminds all, that people paid the ultimate price for us to enjoy the unity and peace we currently enjoy today, stressing that no honor was ever good enough to quantify their level of sacrifices.  He urged all Nigerians, and Edo State citizens in particular to honour their memories by ensuring that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes were not in vain, emphasizing that caution must be taken to ensure that the...
