Potential Migrants: CAIMAT Trains, Empowers 450 Youths on Skills Aquisition

By Osariemen Idiaghe. Creation of Alternatives to Irregular Migration and Human Trafficking Project,(CAIMAT) says it has trained and empowered 450 youths on different skills. The director of Project, Saliu Aidorolo disclosed this at a press briefing in Benin City, Edo state capital. He said the 450 beneficiaries were divided into 30 groups which comprises of 15 beneficiaries per cooperative adding that the cooperatives have been registered with the state government. He revealed that the success of the project depended on the realisation of three expected results of creating economic alternatives through equipping 450 potential Migrants with necessary capacities and means to start up adding that the project will continue to monitor the cooperatives and support them to make economically sustainable. Mr Aidorolo said the project is also aimed at increasing awarenesses on the dangers of irregular migration as most victims are deceived by their traffickers . He added that the project is also aimed at sensitisation of young people in secondary schools who are targets of traffickers and recriuters. He said" youths living in target locations are better equipped to improve their livelihoods. Creation of Alternatives to Irregular Migration and human Trafficking (CAIMAT) Project is a European Union funded intervention project through the British Council in Nigeria inder the Agent for Citizens Driven Transformation (ACT) Programme. "This project is implemented in Edo state by a consortium of four civil society organization (CSO's) led by Ideal Development Resource Center. (IDRC). Other partners are Bethshan Youth organization Initiative for Disability Empowerment with Accessibility and support and Edo state children protection network. "CAIMAT project seeks to create a condition or situation where young people in Benin can have increase access to socio- economic alternatives to irregular migration and empoered to make good choices. " Finally, the creation of a platform has contributed to reducing the communication gap which is currently minning the trust in authorities, this will help the government to tailor further its actions to manage migration issues and support the full socia- economic development of youths projects location i the state.
