Partners for Peace in Nigeria Delta (P4P), a network supported by the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), has called on women journalists to join forces with them in their mission to promote peace in the region
The network's Chairman of the Prevent Committee in Edo State, Catechist Alphonsus Odiaua, made the appeal to the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Edo State chapter, seeking their support in amplifying their message of peace
According to Odiaua, P4P's mission is to build social capital around peace-building by amplifying the voices of positive actors, building a network of self-identified agents of peace, and leveraging that network through facilitation, small grants, and capacity building
The network comprises thousands of stakeholders from civil society, community-based organizations, private companies, donor organizations, and the general public, all committed to promoting peaceful livelihoods in the Niger Delta
Odiaua emphasized that P4P is dedicated to promoting peace in the region by providing a platform where people from different backgrounds and perspectives can come together, not to point fingers or take sides, but to understand and address the root causes of conflict and build peace
He noted that the network's approach is inclusive and collaborative, seeking to engage all stakeholders in the peace-building process
In addition to their ongoing peace promotion efforts, Odiaua revealed that P4P plans to increase women's participation in the electoral process and will be carrying out a street-to-street campaign as part of their intervention
He urged the women journalists to join hands with P4P in spreading their message of peace and promoting peaceful coexistence in the Niger Delta
By partnering with women journalists, P4P aims to tap into their expertise and reach a wider audience, leveraging their influence to promote peace and stability in the region
The collaboration is expected to yield positive results, as women journalists play a critical role in shaping public opinion and promoting social change ,he said
