Federated chapel of Edo NUJ Elect New Exco
By Osariemen Idiaghe. A new executive to pilot the affairs of the Federated chapel of the Edo State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists for the next three years have been elected. The election which was conducted by the Treasurer of the council, Comrade Solomon Obozonya, was witnessed by the state council Secretary, Comrade Andy Egbon and had journalists from other chapels as observers At the end of the election, which was adjudged free, fair and credible, Mercy Onyenweli emerged winner as chairman with 17 votes to defeat her co contestant, Timothy Omobude who got one vote but had earlier pulled out of the race. Others members of the executive who were unopposed are Lucky Ighomuaye (Secretary), Anita Erhenhi (Treasurer) and Justy Oteri ( Financial Secretary). Inaugurating the newly elected executive, Chairman of the council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe said the election was the most peaceful ever conducted since assumption of office. He added that the withdrawal of the other chairmanship candidate, Mr Timothy Omobude from the election having been cleared by the committee could not invalidate the election . While lauding the efforts of y caretaker/ credentials committee headed by Dr Isaac Eranga, he urged members of the chapel and all those who were in opposition during the state council election to embrace peace and join forces with the council to take the council to the next level. In her speech, the newly elected chairman, Mercy Onyenweli assured members of her readiness to key into the developmental strides of the Festus Alenkhe led administration to bring development to the chapel and promised to operate an open door policy.
