Edo Media Tour: youth leader appeals to Obaseki to reopen school

The youth leader of Abudu community, the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon local government area, Mr Luke Asemota has appealed to Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki to reopen the renovated Edo state college of education, Abudu.
The appeal was made while addressing journalists who were on a media tour of project executed by the Godwin Obaseki led administration. He said the call became necessary since the massive renovation work carried out by the state government had been completed and also to enable staff and students return back to academic activities in the institution.
Mr Luke Asemota however commended the governor for the construction work ongoing at the Abudu High Court.
The media tour which took members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State council round some local government areas in Edo South Senatorial district, visited the Government Science and Technical College in Egor local government area.
Engineer Yakubu Mustapha, Direction, Infrastructural Development Department of EDSOPADEC who was on the entourage, intimated journalists of the construction of an underground drainage expected to channel water from the school premises and environs to the Ikpoba river, electrification project and renovation of the staff quarters.
Road projects completed include the Ekosodin road, asphalt overlay of some road inside the University of Benin while others in Ugbokun 11.3 kilometers and Ekiadolor 7.75 kilometers are still ongoing. Other projects visited in ovia north east and ovia South West are: the ultra modern permanent NYSC orientation camp with an auditorium in okada, the Edo state polytechnic, Usen and the college of agriculture Iguoriakhi.
Addressing journalists, the Rector of the Polytechnic in Usen, Professor Abiodun Falodun commended the governor for finalising payment for the newly accredited Business Administration Department in the institution.
At the College of Agriculture where massive construction of building projects is ongoing, the projects Engineer, Kunle Bello said the work is 75 percent completed.
In flagging off the media tour, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media projects and communication strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie said it is important that journalists visit some of the projects completed and ongoing in order to have indepth knowledge of information they reel out to the public. He thanked the NUJ chairman for this laudable initiative noting that it will help government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizens of the state.
On his part, the NUJ chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe said the essence of the media tour is to give journalists first-hand knowledge of what they have been reporting about government activities. He added that the tour will enable journalists in the state to adequately inform the public on government activities as it relates to infrastructural projects.
