Edo State ALGON Demand Immediate Release of Member By Osariemen Idiaghe The Edo State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, has strongly condemned the recent assault on the Esan West Local Government Area chairman, Hon. Collins Aigbogun and demanded for his immediate and unconditional release. The association made this demand at a news briefing in Benin City while noting that the act of volence is a clear violation of democratic principles and the rule of law. Addressing journalists, Edo State chairman of ALGON, Newman Oghomwen Ugiagbe called upon relevant security agencies, including the Inspector General of police, Commissioner of Police Edo State, Assistant Inspector General Zone 5, and all concerned security authorities, to take immediate action in investigating and bringing the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice. "It is disheartening to note that instead of engaging in a peaceful campaign, the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be resorting to violence and intimidation tactics, including unwarranted attacks on PDP members," he stated. According to Ugiagbe, such unprovoked assaults must be addressed swiftly to prevent further attack and ensure a free and fair electoral process. While noting that ALGON stands firm in its commitment to promoting peace, democracy and the rule of law in Edo State, the chairman called on all stakeholders including political parties and security agencies to work together to safeguard the rights and safety of all citizens during the electioneering period. He urged the authorities to prioritize the investigation of the assault and hold the culprits accountable for their actions. The ALGON chairman therefore demanded the immediate release of Hon. Collins Aigboqun, Chairman Esan West Local Government Council, alledging that he was suddenly being victimized by police from the Force Headquarters in Abuja after laying complain that he was attacked. Responding on the matter, the Edo State Commissioner of Police Iwo Nemi told newsmen that Collins Aigbogun was invited to the police headquarters in Benin City for interrogation but upon investigation, it was discovered that he had other criminal charges against him which necessiteted him being moved to Abuja.
