Edo New CP Seeks Media Collaboration in Combating Crime

 The New Commissioner of Police of Edo State Command,Betty Enekpen Otimenyin has promised a Safe environment for  all Edo indigenes, visitors and those in diaspora while doing their legitimate businesses.



She made the commitment when she came on a familiarization visit to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalist in Benin City 



According to the first female commissioner in Edo State, the Nigerian Police Service is determined to bring the rising wave of crime in the state to it's bearest minimum and the media plays a crucial role in this endeavor. “We recognize the importance of the media in the fight against crime,” she said. “As such, we are seeking to build a strong collaboration with the media to help disseminate information, educate the public, and gather intelligence to combat crime.”


The Commissioner added that the police has put in place so many  measures and strategies to combat crime, including strengthening its forensic capabilities and improving response times to emergency situations.


Commissioner Enekpen emphasized the need for the media  to help in sending a strong message, stating that the police are determined to bring criminals to justice. “When you see something, say something,” she urged.


The Commissioner assured the media practitioners that the police  would respond promptly to their requests for information and provide regular updates on operations.


Responding, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, commended the Commissioner for her commitment to building a strong collaboration with the media.  He appealed to the commissioner to give more time to motorist concerning the Third Party Insurance 

“We appreciate the Commissioner’s willingness to collaborat ise with us,”  He said that the media is ready to work with the police to help combat crime and promote safety in the society.


Alenkhe noted that the media has a critical role to play in crime reporting and prevention, and that they are committed to supporting the police in their efforts to promote safety awareness among the public. “We will work with the police to provide accurate and balanced reporting on crime-related issues,”
