2027: Edo South Political Leaders Must Face The Facts About Senator Neda Imasuen
![]() |
As the Senatorial primary election draws near ahead of the 2027 general elections, it has become increasingly surprising to hear certain political leaders asking the question: “What exactly has Senator Neda Imasuen done for Edo South?”
Such a question coming from experienced political leaders is not only disappointing but also intellectually dishonest. These are individuals who have access to information, understand how governance works, and possess the capacity to verify facts before making public assertions. If such comments were made by uninformed observers, it would be understandable. However, for members of the political class to deliberately ignore verifiable realities simply to score political points is unfortunate.
For clarity, Senator Neda Imasuen currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Petitions, one of the most strategic and influential committees in the National Assembly. Those familiar with parliamentary processes understand the enormous political and constitutional significance attached to such a position, particularly during periods of heightened political tension.
During the controversy surrounding the Natasha issue, tensions within the Senate had already begun creating visible cracks capable of triggering wider political instability. There were mounting pressures and political interests from certain northern power blocs pushing narratives many believed could have escalated into a constitutional confrontation capable of threatening the stability of the presidency through impeachment-related manoeuvres.
At that defining moment, Senator Neda Imasuen aligned himself with national stability, democratic order, and responsible leadership instead of personal ambition or political opportunism.
Those conversant with Senate procedure understand clearly that if such sensitive matters had been aggressively pushed through the appropriate committee channels, the consequences could have created severe constitutional complications for both the Senate leadership and the presidency. Rather than fuel further division, Senator Neda adopted a calm, disciplined, and statesmanlike approach that helped prevent the situation from degenerating into a broader national crisis.
As a proud Benin son grounded in loyalty, responsibility, and truth, he stood firmly in defence of peace, party cohesion, and governmental stability at a particularly sensitive period in the country’s political climate. It was this commitment and sense of responsibility that earned him recognition and appreciation within both the presidency and the APC leadership following his eventual defection.
It is equally important to correct the misleading narratives being circulated regarding constituency projects. The truth remains that funds for constituency interventions covering 2025 and 2026 are yet to be released, a fact that can be independently verified by anyone willing to investigate honestly. Consequently, attempts to weaponise road projects and constituency interventions for political propaganda should be viewed with caution and subjected to proper scrutiny.
Politics must never become an excuse to distort facts or suppress truth. Democracy thrives on constructive criticism, but credibility demands honesty. Senator Neda Imasuen has continued to play a significant role in strengthening political stability, supporting governance, and protecting the collective interests of Edo State and Nigeria at large.
