Conflicting Results Declarations In Edo South Senatorial District Primary Stirs Confusion In AP



The All Progressives Congress in Edo South Senatorial District was thrown into uncertainty on Monday after two rival electoral committees announced conflicting results from the party’s primary election for the "Edo South Senatorial District seat*, leaving members and observers in limbo over who truly won the ticket.


The contest, held across the 77 wards in the district’s seven local government areas, saw a large turnout of party faithful. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor proceedings, but the process ended with two separate claims of victory for the senatorial ticket.


In one declaration at Urhokpota Hall in Benin City, a faction of the electoral committee led by Mohammed Ajana announced former House of Representatives member Hon. Omorogie Ogbeide-Ihama as the winner of the "Edo South Senatorial District primary.


Ajana said the results were collated ward by ward across Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, Egor, Orhionmwon, Ovia North East, Ovia South West and Uhunmwonde. According to him, Ogbeide-Ihama secured 27,154 votes to defeat Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who polled 6,785 votes, and incumbent Senator Neda Imasuen who garnered 13,580 votes.


He stated that the committee’s report would be forwarded to the APC National Secretariat for ratification and official declaration, insisting that Ogbeide-Ihama won in all seven local government areas.


Hours later, a rival electoral panel headed by Chief Returning Officer Abubakar Muhammed Kabiru released a different outcome at another collation venue. Kabiru declared Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu the winner of the *Edo South Senatorial District ticket*, saying he polled 33,399 votes to clinch the position.


Under this result, Ogbeide-Ihama scored 12,560 votes while Senator Neda Imasuen had 5,107 votes. Kabiru maintained that his committee’s collation reflected the authentic will of APC members in Edo South.


The conflicting figures immediately triggered celebrations in different camps, with supporters of both aspirants trooping out to celebrate their candidate’s declared victory for the senatorial seat. Security personnel were deployed to collation centers across the district to maintain order and prevent a breakdown of law.


Party faithful and political observers say the development has cast a shadow over the credibility of the exercise and increased pressure on the APC national leadership to intervene.


 Many are now awaiting an official pronouncement from   the National Working Committee in Abuja to determine the authentic winner of the *Edo South Senatorial District seat* and restore clarity to the contest.


The Edo South senatorial ticket is considered one of the key battles in the state ahead of the next general election, given the political weight of the district and the profiles of the contenders. With parallel results now in circulation, the next move by the party’s national body is expected to determine whether the dispute is resolved internally or escalates further.
