WANEP TRAINS JOURNALISTS ON CONFLICT SENSITIVE REPORTING, URGE EDO GOVT TO ASSENT TO STATE ACTION PLAN ON UNSCR 1325

The West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP) has trained journalists and media practitioners in Edo State on conflict sensitive reporting, Women Peace Security (WPS), Youth Peace Security (YPS) agenda.


The 2- day capacity training/workshop was aimed at equipping journalists and media practitioners with relevant skills to report conflict sensitive issues, WPS and YPS agendas without escalating tensions and to promote responsible reporting.


WANEP Programme Officer, Mrs Nkifan Owo- Akbor said the training was geared towards highlighting the need for the media to use its skills and platforms to report on WPS, YPS agenda in de-escalating tension among vulnerable groups and "undeserving communities"


National coordinator for WANEP Nigeria, Dr. Bridget Osakwe urged Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo to assent to the Edo State Action Plan on Women Peace and Security as this would strengthen women involvement in peace building processes.


Also speaking, coordinator of the office of the first lady Mrs Anani Edesili who was represented by Mrs Amen Ajayi  urged media practitioners to use their platforms in  promoting peace and inclusivity on issues bothering on women and youths.


"In this era where almost everyone with a smartphone can make content go viral, engagement like these are extremely important and seriously needed" she said.


Facilitator of the 2-day training/ workshop,  Mrs Adesuwa Osa- Uwagie said the roll of the media in promoting peace, amplifying the voices of women, youths and vulnerable groups cannot be overemphasized.


Edo NAWOJ Chairperson, Habiba Sam appreciated WANEP for organising the training and for bringing women journalists together to participate in the training. She said promoting peace remains WANEP's core mission with early warning and human security as it's flagship focus. 


"NAWOJ Edo State is grateful for the training. We are in full support of what WANEP is doing which aligns with NAWOJ mandate of supporting women, the girl child and vulnerable groups in society by amplifying their voices"


Highlight of the training was the official inauguration of State Action Plan (SAP) fellowship by Dr Bridget Osakwe.

OKOMU OIL PALM COMPANY REWARDS LOYAL EMPLOYEES

 NUJ Federated Chapel holds Annual Lecture, Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  Edo State Council has announced  to hold its 2023 Annual Lecture on 28th September 2023 at the Edo NUJ Event hall. This was disclosed in a meeting held by the organizing committee in the Chapel Secretariat at NUJ  signed by the Chairman organizing Committee , Prince Leo Eziekiel  and Secretary Pastor Confidence Osarumwense ahead of the event. The event which has   the Theme  Unraveling the Nexus of bad governance and irregular migration: The Media as a Catalyst for Desired Change  would be delivered by Mr. Nevile  Onebamhoi Obakhedo under the distinguished Chairmanship of Prof. Henry Oghator.
