Edo Assembly Polls: PDP Wins Majority Seats. By Osariemen Idiaghe l Benin City Edo state Ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) has won majority seats in last Saturday's House of Assembly Polls in Edo state. The election which was characterized by tight security and voter apathy saw the PDP clinching 13 seats out of the 21 state constituencies results so far declared by lNEC. The Edo state house of assembly comprises of a 24 member state parliament where the All Progressives Congress(APC) is said to have won 9 seats while the Labour Party won one seat. Results for the remaining two constituencies are being awaited with that of Egor constituency declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Tight Security, Low Turnout Characterize Assembly Election in Edo By Osariemen Idiaghe Low turnout of voters amidst very tight Security was recorded in all voting centers across Edo state in the house of assembly election. In Edo state, only the house of assembly election held as the governorship election will hold in 2024. It was observed that INEC officials arrived early with election materials as accreditation and voting went on smoothly with the BVAS machine functioning without hitches. At Eresoyen Primary school, Uhogua, Iguoshodin community in Ovia North East Local Government Area where the IDP camp is located, gunmen were alleged to have carted away all voting materials, BVAS machine while several people were injured. By Osariemen Idiaghe. Creation of Alternatives to Irregular Migration and Human Trafficking Project,(CAIMAT) says it has trained and empowered 450 youths on different skills. The director of Project, Saliu Aidorolo disclosed this at a press briefing in Benin City, Edo state capital. He said the 450 beneficiaries were divided into 30 groups which comprises of 15 beneficiaries per cooperative adding that the cooperatives have been registered with the state government. He revealed that the success of the project depended on the realisation of three expected results of creating economic alternatives through equipping 450 potential Migrants with necessary capacities and means to start up adding that the project will continue to monitor the cooperatives and support them to make economically sustainable. Mr Aidorolo said the project is also aimed at increasing awarenesses on the dangers of irregular migration as most victims are deceived by their traffickers . ...

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has assured its customers in Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti states of adequate power supply as the customers get prepared to pay electricity bills. The assurance was disclosed by the new MD/CEO of BEDC, Dr Henry Ajagbawa at an interactive session with payment partners in Benin city. Dr Henry Ajagbawa informed the stakeholders of BEDC recent engagement of 11 Agregators that have been assigned to come up with 10,000 agents to serve customers across the BEDC franchise states to pay for services provided and also be able to recover funds from electricity consumers. According to him, most consumers had often attributed inability to pay electricity bills to non agents in their areas which was as a result of BEDC having just 1 Aggregator with 1,650 billing and payment agents before now.
